Tasting NOTES

Aromas of brambly berries, allspice and smoke lead to flavors of fresh figs, boysenberries and pomegranate, with notes of fresh tobacco and earth. Soft and round, with lush, chewy tannins and lively acidity that draws the flavors into a long, smooth finish and makes this an excellent food wine. The classic grape of the Rioja region of Spain, Tempranillo pairs perfectly with grilled and roasted meats, cured ham and cheeses. Delicious now, this wine will show best within eight years from vintage.

Vineyard NOTES

The Bundschu family's 150+year-old vineyard is located on the southwest slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, just eight miles north of San Pablo Bay. One 4.6 acre vineyard block with Huichica clay-loam topsoil and light stream gravel deposits is planted to three distinct clones: UC Davis 2, Riscal and Mauro. Yield 4.0 tons/acre.

Production NOTES

- Hand-harvested in the cool morning hours, destemmed, then optically sorted and gravity fed directly to fermentation tanks. Innoculated with EC1118 yeast strain.
- Twice daily, gentle pumpovers, using louvers and screens to eliminate pumping skins and seeds.
- Indigenous malolactic fermentation and battonage weekly.
