Sitting high up on the northern edge of Sonoma Mountain, Pickberry Vineyard gained fame in the 80s and 90s as a premier Bordeaux-varietal site in Sonoma Valley.
Valuing the loyalty our members have for Rhinefarm Vineyard, we reward your loyalty by crafting exclusive wines from our favorite neighbors, vetted by six generations of loyalty to Sonoma. This Pickberry Vineyard Merlot epitomizes the dark, powerful side of Merlot with loads of cassis, plum, wet earth, and deep mineral aromas. Big flavors of red fruit, cocoa, and earthiness don’t overwhelm as tannins are soft, texture is
silky, and the finish is a cooling, dark chocolate horizon.
Sitting high up on the northern edge of Sonoma Mountain, the Pickberry Vineyard gained fame in the 80s and 90s as a premier Bordeaux-varietal site in Sonoma Valley. It still grows award-winning fruit. At an elevation of 700 feet, days can be warm, but cool afternoon winds from the coast as well as nippy nights and mornings result in late ripening fruit that develop intense flavors, and rich, deep colors. The Merlot that goes into this special wine club exclusive comes from clone 181 vines, a powerful and darkly flavored clone, growing in
well-drained, gravelly loam volcanic soils, promoting powerful concentration and superb structure for this classy, small production wine.
