2015 Tempranillo RoséSonoma Valley
Aromas of mandarin orange, hibiscus, and a hint of clove lead into a complex palate of strawberry, orange pekoe tea, fresh spices, and a classic Tempranillo note of fresh tobacco.
Aromas of mandarin orange, hibiscus, and a hint of clove draw your senses into a complex palate of strawberry, orange pekoe tea, fresh spices, and a classic Tempranillo note of fresh tobacco on the finish. Structured and mouth-filling while remaining crisp and refreshing, this European-style rosé is a perfect sipper for the warm seasons and pairs beautifully with charcuterie, shellfish, and lighter grilled fare.
Rhinefarm’s five acres of Tempranillo are planted on the valley floor, influenced by the cooler climes drifting in from the Petaluma gap. Its neighbors are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer. The vines were planted in 1993 with the Riscal, Mauro and UCD 2 clones and they yield four tons per acre most harvests.
The red Tempranillo grapes are harvested by hand in half-ton bins in the cool morning hours. They are then destemmed and gravity fed directly to the stainless steel tank where the wine attains its characteristic dark rose color for 48-72 hours. It is then drained off the skins and stainless-steel fermented at cool temperatures.
