First created for the Bacchus Club in 2007, this perennially exciting blend of the lush fruit and smoky character of Syrah with the dense, dark flavors of Cab Sauv has been a symbiotic revelation - like chocolate-covered cherries, or bacon-wrapped figs (or bacon-wrapped anything, really). Our 2016, the tenth vintage of this member-exclusive wine, is no exception. Roasted coffee beans and savory meat mingle with lush black fruits and black licorice for a complex nose that invites the senses into velvety wine layered with black cherries, fresh ground espresso, and dark chocolate framed by ample tannins and acidity into a long finish. Will easily age until our 20th vintage, i.e. 5-10 years, but enjoyable now with decanting.
Eight miles north of San Pablo Bay, the Bundschu family's 160+ year-old vineyard wraps around the southwest slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. The terrain features steep, southwest-facing hillsides of shallow, rocky soils of volcanic ash and alluvial wash. Pervasive maritime breezes and long daylight exposure allow fruit to develop intense concentration while retaining vibrant structure. The Syrah is sourced from a prestigous, organically-farmed vineyard at Bartholomew Park.
