Tasting NOTES
Elegant yet untamed, our 2023 Estate Cabernet Franc channels the varietys signature herbaceous character through a refined, alpine lens. Aromas of thyme, anise, and eucalyptus rise above a core of dark fruit and subtle spice, leading to a palate thats opulent yet fresh, with fine-grained tannins and a lingering, savory finish. Less vegetal and more nuanced than its predecessors, this vintage balances richness with liftmaking it equally suited for cozy winter nights or après-ski gatherings. Pair with lamb dal, schnitzel, or hearty Alpine fare, and if you can, try saving a few bottlesthis ones built to age beautifully.
2023 marked our first harvest from our Regenerative Organic Certified® vineyards. It was an exceptional vintage across Sonoma, with a slow, cool growing season and plentiful rain. Tracking about a month behind our typical harvest, it was one of the coolest and latest vintages weve seen on Rhinefarm in recent history, with grapes coming into the winery as late as November. With roughly 150% of our average rainfall and cooler temperatures throughout spring and summer, our soils were deeply nourished and the canopies thrived. The grapes developed gradually, benefiting from extended ripening time during the slow season. This consistently cool climate yielded complex, balanced, and elegant wines that distinctly highlight our unique terroir.
Vineyard NOTES
Eight miles north of San Pablo Bay, the Bundschu family's 160+ year-old estate vineyard wraps around the southwest slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains. It's here that our eight acres of Cabernet Franc vineyards experience a 10 degree heat difference from the valley floor during the summer growing season, allowing the fruit to fully ripen. Planted at two different elevations, one close to sea level and one at almost 700 feet elevation, this vineyard features. Rhyolitic ash and alluvial wash soil. This causes the vines to fight more to reach root depth, and ultimately, the combination of these natural elements produces deeply colored, concentrated, balanced wines.
