A beautiful expression of 158 years of Gewürztraminer expertise, this pairs with everything from Asian cuisine, to Thanksgiving turkey, to a sunny afternoon.
Representing 158 years of Gewürztraminer making experience on Rhinefarm, the 2016 proves why we’ve never questioned making this classic, aromatic white wine. Luscious white blossom aromas with nectarine, ginger, and lemon zest greet your senses while the round, plush texture carries bright flavors of tropical guava, honeycrisp apple, and a citrusy minerality. Kept fresh and lively by vibrant acidity, this dry-style wine is crisp and refreshing.
" The Bundschu family's 150+year-old vineyard is located on the SW slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, just eight miles north of San Pablo Bay. " Terrain below 150 ft elevation features gently sloping Huichica clay loam soils with gravel deposits and cooler growing conditions that deliver minerality and focused acidity. Wines grown in these blocks bear the Sonoma Coast designation to reflect their cool climate character.
" Eleven acres of Heritage Selection vines planted 1969, harvested in 2 lots. Eleven acres of clone 47 vines planted 2005, harvested in 3 lots. Yield 3.5 tons/acre.
With the vines back in balance, 2016 is “magical blend of ’14 and ’15.” A wet winter and warm spring meant an early, healthy start of the growing season, followed by a long, hot, dry summer that led to another early harvest of perfectly mature grapes from the ideal ripening conditions. The resulting wines had some of ‘15’s intense concentration but the evolved tannins and approachability of ’14.
